From Humble Beginnings to Forging Brilliance: The Inspiring Journey of Our Visionary Managing Director

Hailing from a humble village in Thrissur, our MD’s story is about resilience, determination, and unyielding ambition. Having lost his father at a young age, he took on the responsibility of being the family’s primary provider while still in his teenage years. Regardless of the challenges, a dream burnt brightly within him—a dream of becoming an entrepreneur.

The desire to help his family while learning made Dany work as a door-boy at a jewellery showroom in Thrissur during his first year of undergraduate studies at a private college. He would attend classes from morning to noon and then work in the afternoon.

The Defining Moment

Dany’s family arranged for him to pursue an MBA in Bengaluru, but his plans unravelled when he missed an exam, struggling to balance classes and work. But what seemed like a setback turned out to be a blessing in disguise — a pivotal turning point in his life.

The pull of his vision—a pioneering diamond manufacturing business when India’s diamond market was virtually non-existent—became impossible to ignore.

Shaping Passion Into Purpose

Dany saw untapped potential in diamonds, a concept still in its infancy in India. Diamonds captivated his imagination. He convinced his family not to send him for higher studies and instead pursued a six-month training course on diamonds at the International Gemological Institute (IGI) in Mumbai. With the help of an uncle, Dany secured a seat and went to Mumbai.

Challenges followed Dany; yet, he completed his course with flying colours and even gained practical experience as a gemologist. By the end of 2008, Dany returned to Kerala with a clear plan: to secure a job that would help him understand the intricacies of the jewellery manufacturing industry. While his heart was set on entrepreneurship, he recognised the importance of learning the business first — especially given his family’s circumstances at the time. Dany deeply admired Joyalukkas and aspired to work with the renowned brand, hoping to earn the blessing of Mr. Joyalukkas himself.

The Spark of Encouragement

The conversation between Mr Joyalukkas and Dany soon evolved into a meaningful exchange about ambition and opportunity. With a deep entrepreneurial spirit, Dany expressed his desire to be a part of Mr. Joyalukkas’ esteemed organisation. They had a positive and profound discussion about professional growth, towards the end of which he suggested, “You should be an entrepreneur instead of an employee.”

Perhaps a visionary like Mr. Joyalukkas recognised Dany’s potential when no one else could. Those words ignited Dany’s determination to build something of his own.

Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Dany requested to be placed as a counter salesman in Chennai instead of accepting a higher-paying gemologist position. Curious about his decision, Mr Joyalukkas asked why he would turn down a better salary. Dany explained that working as a gemologist would limit his learning opportunities — he wanted direct customer interactions to truly understand the market.

Impressed by Dany’s mindset, Mr Joyalukkas agreed to the request but with a condition: Dany could work as a salesman for six months, after which he was to return to the purchase division in the Thrissur office.

This hands-on exposure expanded Dany’s perspective and equipped him with invaluable insights into the diamond jewellery industry.

The Relentless Pursuit of the Vision

Dany’s relentless curiosity drove him to seek even more learning opportunities — he willingly took a lower position in the barcoding section to understand the intricate link between jewellery manufacturing and sales.

His eagerness to grow pushed him further when he accepted another lower position, this time with a pay cut, to help develop new software for Joyalukkas’s manufacturing unit. With no prior experience in manufacturing diamond jewellery, Dany faced intense pressure. However,  his meticulous note-taking and hand-drawn process sketches became invaluable tools for problem-solving. Despite the challenges, Dany and his team successfully built the software, transforming the difficult experience into a priceless learning opportunity.

Armed with knowledge and newfound confidence, Dany was ready to start his own business for manufacturing diamond jewellery — but the challenge of raising capital loomed large. That’s when he turned to his brother-in-law, Paul Thachil, who believed in Dany’s vision and offered financial support.

With funding secured, Dany roped in three of his college friends as the primary team. He spent evenings at Thekkinkadu Maidan teaching them the fundamentals of diamond manufacturing. For nine months, they engaged in constant discussions, learning, and planning. Eventually, the group decided it was time to transform their shared vision into reality and launch their business.

Facing reality and launching Dew Diamonds

During a pivotal conversation, Dany shared his plan to pledge his land as collateral for a business loan. He informed Mr. Joyalukkas that is how he planned to raise the capital.

Offering wisdom and encouragement, Mr Joyalukkas provided candid yet valuable advice—Dany should not build his business with the expectation that Joyalukkas would be his sole customer. He gently urged him to step beyond his comfort zone, emphasising that true growth comes with embracing new challenges. He also clarified that any products manufactured by Dany would be evaluated just like those of any other vendor, without preferential treatment.

As their conversation came to a close, Mr Joyalukkas encouraged Dany to pursue his vision, asking him to formally resign and wishing him success in his entrepreneurial journey. It was a defining moment—one that marked the end of one chapter and the bold beginning of another, driven by integrity, determination, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.

Dany rented a house in Thrissur on October 9, 2010. In the very next financial year, 2011–12, Dew Diamonds transformed its humble beginnings into extraordinary success, achieving a staggering turnover that soared to 17.5 times the initial invested capital. In 2012, Dew Diamonds opened an independent new factory unit in Ollur, Thrissur. And so began the voyage.

The Dawn of Dew Diamonds

Dany laid the foundation for Dew Diamonds on February 9, 2011, alongside his business partner and three trusted companions. Fuelled by unwavering commitment, relentless dedication, and a vision as brilliant as the diamonds they aspired to create, they embarked on a journey that would soon exceed expectations.

Starting with modest capital, their hard work quickly paid off — by the second financial year, Dew Diamonds achieved an impressive turnover, a testament to their passion and perseverance.

Through each challenge and milestone, Dany has proven that with focus, humility, and the courage to take risks, one can craft diamonds and a legacy that inspires generations.

And so, the journey began—a journey that continues to inspire, evolve, and shine brighter with each passing day.

The story behind the name

Dany always wanted to give his business a short name, within 3 letters, representing purity and transparency. It was Paul Thachil who suggested the name Dew to Dany. Dany felt that there may not be another name that fit his criteria so well and proceeded.
